Description
Background:
This is proposed as an addition and not a substitute for the current MC and VMC boxes. Saves space one box is enough for some.
Combine MC and VMC in one box. Top line MC AUTO/MANUAL, middle line MC and bottom line V MC.

No. The top is the infobox title and the only means without intimate knowledge of XCSoar to identify which data is displayed. Imagine we would start displaying any of speed infoboxes without a title. And this is an area that needs consistency in the UI.
I understand the objection but I am not sure you understood my request. In the top line (title line) I proposed to put MC followed by a slash and then either AUTO or MANUAL, i.e.
MC/AUTO or MC/MANUAL I believe this still signals to the user that this is the MC box and I don't want to eliminate the current solutions for those that are more comfortable with that approach just add this one as an alternative because it eliminates a box and reduces clutter.
I submitted another Ticket#1811 as an attempt to make the INFO BOX pages easier to read for those who do not respond to a tabular display and I included a drawing that shows how the MC would be displayed as described above. I include the drawing below so you don't have to look it up. White space and separating groups of information are standard ways to make information more readable.

One of the biggest things I have struggled with in XCSoar is arranging INFO BOXES so that the information is easy to interpret and to reduce the clutter. Your comment about needing an intimate knowledge of XCSoar is the the exact reason I submitted Ticket#1811. I just see a jumble whereas others may see a perfect picture. I find myself having to commit the INFO Pages to memory in order to be able to hone in on the information that XCSoar is trying to put at my fingertips.
I agree consistency is good but we have already departed from displaying a title in the Next Waypoint box and I find no confusion there but we have also changed the WP Dist box to display the waypoint name and this is confusing. If these two boxes are displayed side by side it is very difficult to tell immediately which is which.
If you are still with me at this point thanks for reading this.

I missed the "MC" before "AUTO" or "MANUAL". Reopening.

Well, I did also not like this change (see #1567) and that change was the reason I dismissed this ticket so quickly after seeing the request for yet another title change ;) It is disabled in the XCSoar version I generate for me.
