Description (last modified by wwk) (diff)
XCSoar 6.2 crashes when starting and trying to load terrain xcm map file. Tried different xcm files with varying levels of detail and size. Tried two different PDAs (both PPC 2003, iPAQ h39xx). 6.1.5 works just fine with the same xcm terrain map files. XCSoar on Windows 7 PC does not exhibit this problem. I suspect there is something wrong with the PPC2003 version.
Update: Performed an upgrade (installed 6.2 on top of 6.1.5) and it loads the xcm map files ok.

Can you give details about the XCM files that cause the crash? (If from the map generator, boundaries would be useful)

I downloaded this file - http://download.xcsoar.org/maps/US_ILLINOIS_NO.xcm and also tried self-generated ones for the same region. I don't think it is the xcm file though. I updated the ticket and mentioned that 6.1.5 works ok with those maps. I then installed 6.2 on top of 6.1.5 (instead of removing 6.1.5, its XCSoarData folder and doing a clean fresh install). 6.2 works fine now. Maybe there is something wrong with the 6.2 installer? I used XCSoar-PPC2003.cab (copied to and installed from the PDA). I was able to duplicate the issue with two different devices.

Thanks wwk, that was useful information and I've been able to duplicate that. This appears to be the same issue as http://www.xcsoar.org/trac/ticket/1460, so I'm closing this ticket as a duplicate and will post any further information to that ticket.
PS Installing 6.2 over 6.1.5 only appears to fix the issue because a terrain cache file generated by 6.1.5 is reused by 6.2, and the generation of this terrain cache file is presumably linked to the crash. Loading a different terrain file will trigger the crash again and it's still possible that there are related issues, so until we release a maintenance version after #1460 is closed I'd suggest you continue using 6.1.5 or at least keep the 6.1.5 EXE installed on your device.
